From the Desk of the President - December 2017
Published: December 1, 2017

This year has been extremely busy negotiating renewal agreements. The following contracts have been ratified by our members working at Glencore, Mansour Mining Technologies Inc., Lafarge Holcim, Brinks Sudbury Branch and recently Gateway Casino.

The Bargaining Committees elected at Finlandia Hoivakoti Nursing Home, Sudbury Finnish Rest Home Society Inc., Elizabeth Centre & Nutra Services, St. Joseph's Villa & St. Gabriel's Villa have met with their employers for several days. We have applied for conciliation at all these workplaces; not good. We are in the planning stages of organizing demonstrations. There are meeting dates in January for negotiations with The Walford on the Park.

At your workplace, you have a Unit Chair, Stewards, Bargaining Committee Members and Health & Safety Representatives. Please check out the Union Bulletin Board at your workplace for the names and contact numbers of these individuals.

Mine Mill has a robust membership and an extremely rich history. Education is available to all members and we welcome anyone who is interested in joining our leadership.

In 2013, CAW & CEP merged to create Unifor. Since that time the union dues structure changed and there was a transition period. Our Financial Officer must have this completed by January 2018.

Darren Leblanc, Cathy Mikkelsen and the students who ran the Campground in 2017 did a wonderful job. To all the leadership who continue to contribute their time and are committed to improving the working conditions for our members. Thank you.

And last, but certainly not least, I would like to thank Ron Michaud and all of the Retired Brothers and Sisters who are in a moment's notice, when we need folks at a rally, demonstration or conference, they are always there. Whenever they are called upon, they are always there to assist. As the old saying goes, "retired from the job, but not from the fight". This has been shown by our Retiree's time and time again and I don't know what our Local would do without you all.

I am looking forward to spending time with my family and friends and Season's Greetings to all of you and your families.

In Solidarity,

Anne Marie MacInnis,
