It has been a very busy summer with the workers, we have worked with a lot of shortages and there has been a lot of overtime. As you know, the company has put us in a lay off position. They have cancelled one full time evening float position.

We have no grievances in the system and now we are having a Union/Company meeting once a month which has been working well. Welcome to new employees. Our seniority list was updated April 1st, 2016. Keep an eye on your hours.

Your Union, Sudbury Mine, Mill & Smelter Worker's Union, Local 598/Unifor is celebrating its 100th year Anniversary. In 1916, the Western Federation of Miners became Mine, Mill & Smelter Workers. Today, our Local is the sole remaining Local of the legendary Mine Mill Union.

I would like to extend a very Happy and Healthy New Year to you and your families. I would like to start the new year on a positive note. We, as workers in Long Term Care, should be very proud of what we do on a daily basis. It doesn't matter what department you are in, it is a very demanding and difficult job. Our residents receive excellent care and are truly loved.

Violence against women has to be stopped. Unifor has brought this issue up at meetings as one of their top concerns. Missing and murdered women require we find the means, to give this crisis the attention necessary, through education, information and awareness of our populace.

Newsletter - September 11, 2014
Membership meeting was held Saturday, September 6th, 2014 at M.I.C. In attendance, Fred Bond, Anne Marie MacInnis and 9 standing members. Fred Bond gave all present an update on contract talks and that an arbitrator had been agreed upon with a date of well into the middle of 2015.

Unit Chair Election
The Unit Chair election will be held August 15th and 16th, 2013.

Our collective agreement expired on March 3rd, 2013. In light of the fact that we are considered essential services, we cannot strike. So, we must go through our process of negotiations.

The ratification meeting and vote was Wednesday, November 2nd, 2011. The tentative agreement was accepted with 65% support.

Press Release - Finlandia Nursing Home
After a meeting and ratification vote on Wednesday, November 2nd, 2011, the 140 members at Finlandia Nursing Home ratified and accepted a new two year contract by a 65% margin. The contract expired on March 3rd, 2011.
