Dear Brothers and Sisters:

I would like to thank the membership for the support that has been given towards your Bargaining Committee.

The ratification meeting and vote was Wednesday, November 2nd, 2011. The tentative agreement was accepted with 65% support. We sat with the Company in March, April and October and are very pleased to report that we were able to negotiate improvements and fought the concessions the Employer proposed.

We improved some language in the collective agreement pertaining to definitions on summer vacations, seniority and service. We improved some understandings with workplace violence, as defined under the Occupational Health and Safety Act.

We have maintained our PEL programme and Mine Mill Fund. This means that as a unit, we may send members to Port Elgin for education and training.

Our National Day of Mourning can now be celebrated with our Health and Safety members receiving union-paid leave for June 20th to attend the Memorial Day Services.

Article 9.17 has been clarified to help with employment of disabled workers.

With the Infection Control Committee in-house, we will be able to appoint or elect one of our members to attend these meetings. This Union representative will receive straight time hourly wage for all scheduled hours of work lost to attendance of meetings.

Article 13 Job Postings, will be seven (7) days for first posting, five (5) days for the first subsequent posting then four (4) days for all remaining sub-postings, definitions of layoffs and long-term layoffs, full-time and part-time rights.

Reminders will be given in September if you have not booked your float holidays. If not booked, the Employer will have the right to book these floats.

New for Article 18.04 – In lieu of days can be taken 30 days before or 60 days after the holiday.

A new Letter of Understanding re Women's issues – we have reached an agreement that the Employer will work together with the Union to promote awareness of services and programmes available for women who are having difficulties.

Our new wage grid:

March 4th, 2011 – receive 2% increase for (16.5 months)
July 5th, 2012 – receive 1.5% increase for (7.5) months
Same increase for green circle employees<

Retro pay from March 4th, 2011 to date of ratification November 2nd, 2011; this retro payment will be received by December 16th, 2011.

The Company will be looking for part-time paying into a benefit plan. They will be contacting Manulife to set up meetings.

On December 7th, 8th and 9th, we will be having training sessions for Health and Safety at Mine Mill. Subjects will be on health and safety, accommodations and WSIB information.

November 21st, 22nd, 23rd and 24th will be sessions for our Stewards on Human Rights and Grievance Handling.
