On September 13th, 14th & 15th, we are heading back into bargaining. There are many outstanding issues that need to be discussed. Your bargaining committee will be fighting hard for your new contract.

As you are aware, we are heading into bargaining in May. The vote for the proposal package is on April 10th, 2017. See flyers on board for place and times. If you want your voice heard, come out and vote.
Newsletter - January 2017
On January 1st, the new Wellness Plan started. There will be some bumps in the road. Please fill out your work load complaint forms for all work over load issues.

So you are aware as of January 1st, 2017, there will be changes in its Wellness Plan. As of yet, we do not know how this will affect our different department. The Union is reviewing the routines for the Housing Aides and Dietary Aides.

The PSW wages increase and retro pay has been given out. If there are any concerns, please contact myself, Melanie or Tiina. Also, we have a new steward. Catherine Gratton has joined our team. We are still looking for a Health & Safety Rep.

The Union has been notified of the upcoming layoffs in the housing and dietary departments. Please read Article 14 in your contract for information on the layoff process.

Summer will be coming soon, summer vacation requests will be approved or denied on April 15th, 2016. If you have any concerns regarding this issue, please contact myself, Tiina or Melanie.
Newsletter - March 2016
Please have your vacation requests in for prime time in by March 15, 2016 at 3:00p.m. Vacation requests are on a seniority basis. I have not heard from Natalie about how many PSW's will be allowed for holidays yet.

We have been busy with the issue of part-time reduction hours. Work load complaints are coming in. Please fill out these forms when an issue occurs. Copies of the contract are available and the smaller version will be available soon.

We had a membership meeting on March 13th, 2015 to ask for support of your bargaining committee. We received a 97% vote for support. We have filed 3 grievances in the past three weeks.

We will be having a very important meeting on March 13th, 2015. At this meeting, we will be discussing negotiations and your contract. The meetings times will be 9:00a.m., 3:30p.m. and 8:00p.m.

Negotiations are still ongoing. Our next round of bargaining is February 24th, 2015. Federal Elections are this week, please go out and vote and make your voice heard.
Newsletter - November 2014
Since my last newsletter, we have had 3 terminations. Once staff reinstated. Talks were resumed October 8th and 9th. Discussions are still in progress and dates are upcoming.

In July 9th & 10th, 2014, we started negotiations and talks will continue in October. We have had 4 grievances which are still outstanding. Also, we are dealing with 2 terminations at this time.

There are a few things I would like to inform the membership about. At this time, we have a Policy Grievance in the system. We will be meeting shortly with management to try to resolve it.

A "thank you" goes out to the hardworking maintenance workers who have been busy shoveling and plowing this winter.  Do not despair.  Spring is just around the corner.  Really!!
