Dear Brothers and Sisters of Lafarge:

I hope everyone had a great and safe summer. As fall is upon us, and the wet and cold weather is near, so is the end of our 2011 production season.

The last date I was told for the primary production crews was around the second or third week of October, along with the drill and blast crew. The secondary production crews will follow shortly after, depending on the surge piles.

The shipping department will be done as early as the middle of November. All these dates could change depending on our inventory and our sales department, as you are all aware that things change from day to day, or at least every Black Wednesday. As for our maintenance department, I have not received any work or dates when you guys might be done for the season.

Management is hoping that there will be a small winter maintenance crew this winter, but the Company hasn't given them an answer yet. So when I find out, I'll let you know.

Everyone who paid their $25.00 deductible for dental should have received their $25 deductible back from Great West Life by now. If you haven't, let me know. As for our $100.00 deductible for medical that some employees paid, Mark and I are still fighting with Great West to get this mess cleared up. I know some of you have received their $75.00 back, and for those who I have talked to about their deductible should receive the payment soon. If you received your payment or if you haven't been paid yet, PLEASE LET ME KNOW!!

Tim Orford will be going around to all employees to cast a vote in order to fill our vacant Health & Safety position, as we have two employees running for the position. So be a team player and cast your vote.

For the employees who returned to work after being off on S.T.D., welcome back and I hope you are feeling better. And for the guys who are still off on S.T.D., a healthy and speedy recovery.

With that being said, I hope everyone has a safe and happy fall.

Yours in Solidarity,

Kevin Bailey, Unit Chair
