Newsletter… May 17, 2021
A newsletter was issued last week, dated May 3rd, 2021 regarding the Covid Vaccine Policy. Article 33 in our collective agreement requires approval from the company to post documents. It inadvertently, got held up at the approval stage. At the time of writing that newsletter the information contained within it was accurate. And even though the company has since posted the policy, discussions with this office continue especially around the new provincial legislation passed into law on April 29th and how it effects our members. The Union has decided to move forward with a Direct Difference / Policy Grievance, regarding the policy content.
There have been some “very” preliminary discussions regarding a possible shift change for some of our members, at Fraser. The site has been put on notice that the extended shift they are considering is not identified in the current collective agreement and will have to negotiated with your bargaining team and subsequently voted on by the members impacted.
The balance of 2021 will see a flurry of Arbitrations and hopefully Mediated Arbitrations. Our National Rep. is working on dates for three at Fraser and two at the Smelter. And your Chief Stewards have submitted several grievances from the Mill and one from the Smelter, for consideration, to be heard at Med. Arb.
Lastly, I would like to acknowledge and congratulate all the Glencore Union officers who have been acclaimed to their various positions and wish the best of luck to all those seeking positions in the up-coming election.
