Obituary
Anne Marie MacInnis
27-04-1965 to 21-08-2023
Anne Marie passed away peacefully with her loving family by her side and in her heart. Loving Mother of Travis MacInnis (predeceased, 2001), and cherished daughter of Evelyn (predeceased, 2011) and George MacInnis (predeceased, 2013). She is survived by her caring and devoted siblings, Janet Strum (Bill), Heather Castonguay (Rene), and George MacInnis (Lori). Anne Marie treasured time spent with family and friends. The love, caring and compassion she shared over the years was reciprocated with generosity, dignity and respect as her health began to decline. She will be remembered fondly as the treasured Auntie of Janel (Wyatt), Kyle, Kolin (Sydney), Conner, Cathryn and Caela, Auntie Bacon to pups Winnie and Crosby, and special second Mom to Vanessa and Justin. She will also be fondly remembered by family and friends near and afar, including those from Antigonish and Cape Breton, Nova Scotia.
Anne Marie was a strong advocate for social justice and a dedicated and compassionate leader fighting for workers’ rights and dignified and effective health care. She began her career at Garson Manor while still in high school and continued her work after Garson Manor transferred to Finlandia Village. She organized her workplace and went on to organize many other workers, advocating for fair wages and safer workplaces. Anne Marie dedicated her career to improving the lives of workers and residents in nursing homes and other health care settings. A Garson resident all her life, Anne Marie held various positions with Mine Mill Local 598 and the Ontario Health Care Coalition. She was recognized as a YWCA Woman of Distinction for the work she has done to better the lives of women and families in our community. Anne Marie’s greatest achievement has been the unconditional love, compassion and care she has shown to others whether it be family, friends, co-workers, or someone in need. She opened her home to anyone needing the company of a good friend and family during holidays, delivered home cooked meals, provided a listening ear and sound advice, and gave generously to those in need. A true humanitarian, great leader, genuine person, and sincere friend will be forever missed but never forgotten.
Special thanks to the Doctors, especially Dr. Frood and the team from Bayshore for their care and compassion.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Garson Food Bank or St. John’s Cemetery.
Burial will take place at St. John's Cemetery on October 7th at 9:00AM followed by a celebration of like at 1:00PM in Falconbridge
